Rio Mesa High School Spartan Marching Band

Fall 2015

The Spartan Marching Band is one of the more demanding performance ensembles at Rio Mesa High School. It is comprised of four main groups-
1. The Winds – which includeFlute, Clarinet, Sax, Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone and Tuba.  2. The Pit – which includes the Mallet instruments (marimba, xylophone) and many of the Non- marching percussion – Timpani, Chimes. 3. The Battery- which is made up of the marching snare, tenors and bass drums. 4. The Color Guard / Tall Flags - this group spins flags, rifles and sabers.

There is  regular rehearsal each day during  1st  period  and mandatory after school practice every Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. and Thursday from 3:30 - 6:30 pm.  Please note that the practice days and times for the 2015 marching band season may change.  Students will be notified during class.

The band performs at all home football games and at four field show competitions throughout Southern California.  All marching band and color guard students are required to participate in all home games and competitions.

There are two uniforms for the marching band students: formal and casual.
Formal: This is the official band uniform (jacket, pants, shako, gloves, drillmasters). It is worn at all home games and band competitions. Under the uniform, students are required to wear a black t-shirt and black gym shorts.  In addition, they must wear long black socks with their drillmasters. The costumes for Color Guard are created each year based on the theme of the marching band field show.

Casual:  The casual uniform consists of the red marching band polo, jeans and drill masters.  This is worn to school on pep rally days and to away football games.

The school provides the formal marching band uniform. However, students must purchase their own drillmasters, gloves and red polo. Orders are placed at the beginning of the school year.
