Spartan Marching Band- Fall 2010

 

The Spartan Marching Band is one of the more demanding performance Ensembles at Rio Mesa High. We have regular rehearsal each day during 1st period 7:50 to 8:48 am and each Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:30 pm. On Saturdays we have extra rehearsals as well as our Field Tournament performances.

 

There is also a fee required to cover transportation, Uniforms, Music, Marching Drill, and Coaches etc. This years Marching Band fees will be $275. There will be many fund-raising opportunities to help raise the funds for the program,: Car Washes, Sponsorships, Food Sales, etc.

 

The Marching Band is made up of four main groups- 1. The Winds – which include: flute, clarinet, Sax, Trumpet, Baritone and Tuba.  2. The Pit – which includes the Mallet instruments (marimba, xylophone) and many of the Non- marching percussion – Timpani, Chimes. 3. The Battery- which is made up of the marching snare, tenors and bass drums. 4. The Color Guard / Tall Flags - this group spins flags, rifles and sabers.

 

Each year we have Summer Band Camp the last two weeks in August to help prepare for the marching season.  This Years Band Camp will be from August  16th to the 27th  (Mon- Fri)  from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. There will be a Freshman Band Camp from August 12-13 From (Thur + Fri) 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm to help the incoming students learn the fundamentals of marching and playing.
